Good as time as any – given that it is Gemini season in the Zodiac – to debut the cover of my upcoming novel, The Haunting of Modesto O’Brien, out September 20, 2025.
It was reminding me of the Gemini twins, often depicted in art as the two heads close together, or off riding horses – both seemed to resonate. The myth of the two Gemini twins, Castor and Pollux, also speaks to male violence - their mother Leda was raped by Zeus, hiding out as a swan – but also sacrifice: when Castor is dying – attacked while trying to rustle cattle - Pollux trades his own immortality to save his brother.
Think that may be how they ended up roaming the heavens as stars.
My novel has nothing to do with the Gemini twins per se, but it does have to do with myth, sacrifice, violence, and of course, horses and cattle. I like to think of it as an eco-gothic story. I’ll be talking a bit more about the book over the next little while. If it sounds interesting, please do pre-order, it helps both author and bookstore.
Order direct from my publisher Latitude 46 Publishing or from your local book store – if you don’t have one in your community, you can order online from many independent bookstores, such as my local Chat Noir Books or Ottawa's delightful Perfect Books Ottawa.
Let’s just try and stay away from Amazon, no point supporting such a blight on the planet.
